The brand's in-store reps loaded first-time buyers up on colorways and sizes, so orders ran well past three items. Customers who made a return on those orders had 20% higher lifetime value than those who didn't. The returners weren't unhappy. They were in.
Returns are bad. If it comes back, the product missed.
A customer making a return is still seeking. They've bought into the brand and they're swapping a size, a color, a style. That's the moment to make them loyal for life.
CASE STUDY · SUSTAINABLE APPAREL
The bundle builder felt obvious.The data said skip it.
Instead of a bundle builder (which showed a bigger price, piled on choices, and dropped conversion 23%), we added a one-click post-purchase offer. It lifted AOV 30% at a 20% opt-in rate, and because the add-on ships in the same box, shipping stays flat, so the extra revenue drops almost entirely to profit.
Build a bundle builder. Let shoppers load up before they check out.
Leave the first purchase alone. After checkout, offer one thing that pairs with their cart, or another colorway. No friction, no decision fatigue.
